Why your knee still hurts even after you followed the doctor’s advice to rest until the pain goes away
Knee pain can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you think you’ve done everything right by following your doctor’s advice to rest.
But what happens when the pain keeps coming back, even after weeks of taking it easy?
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Keep reading to learn why your knee pain keeps coming back, even after resting like the doctor said and how you can finally overcome knee pain for good.
You rested your knee for weeks, like the doctor said.
Used your ability to finally go up and downstairs without pain as a sign that you can finally return to squatting in the gym.
You were excited for leg day until you felt the same pain as before but even worse this time on the first set of squats.
Now you’re feeling defeated and questioning if this lifting stuff is for you.
You start to think “maybe I just have bad knees”, “maybe I shouldn’t do squats anymore”None of that is true
And I get it, your doctor told you to rest until the pain goes away as if that was a long term solution.
And I understand why you trusted that advice, primary care physicians are often given instant credibility for everything they say – but when it comes to how the body moves, it’s actually not their expertise.
Complete rest will not magically make your squats pain free and help you workout without pain.
What you didn’t realize is that by completely resting, you were actually decreasing your body’s physical capacity—your body’s gas tank ⛽️
Think of your body as a car with a full tank of gas when you’re healthy.
You can drive 100 miles without a problem.
But if something goes wrong with your car—let’s say your knee starts hurting—your mileage drops.
Now, you can only drive 90 miles.
If you don’t fix what’s wrong and just let the car sit idle (like resting without proper rehab), your mileage continues to decrease
When you finally decide to drive again—when you jump back into your workouts—your body isn’t ready.
You find you can’t go as hard as you could before, and the pain flares up again.
This is why simply resting isn’t the solution. It doesn’t fix the problem; it just lowers your body’s capacity, setting you up for more pain when you return to lifting.
There's not only a better way and it won’t require you to take any time off from the gym for it to work for you.
Instead of completely resting, you can keep your body moving in safe, pain-free ways that maintain your strength and fitness level.
That way, when you’re ready to get back to your full workout routine, your body is prepared, and the pain doesn’t return
One of the many reasons clients work with me, is because all they have been told is to rest and that never resolved the pain.
Instead of waiting for the pain to go away, we start working on everything above and below the injured/painful area, keeping your body strong.
I show them how to train the exact same movement in different ways so there's no pressure, strain, or pain to their joints.
They learn how to rebuild their gas tank to avoid the pain from returning, get stronger in the process, tone up and lose the fat to reach their goals.
By taking this approach, you’re not just resting—you’re rebuilding.
You’re keeping your gas tank full so that when you return to your full workouts, you’re ready.
So, if you’re tired of resting for weeks only to have the same pain return, it’s time to take a different approach
